TIPS FOR ZUMBA®  CLASS

  • WEAR LOW-TREAD SNEAKERS.  You want the bottom of your sneakers to be as smooth as possible, yet have well-cushioned support inside.  Your best bet are to use dance/jazz shoes for class.  Zumba® recommends any shoe that has good cushion support, medial-lateral support (for side to side movements) and low-traction rubber (for easy sliding and turning).  It is not recommended that you do cardio workouts barefoot. Think: COMFORT.

  • WATER, WATER, WATER.  Before, during, and after your workout.

  • BE ON TIME. If you are over 10 minutes late, you missed the important warm up. Warming up reduces your chances of injury. However - I don't mind if you can only make 45min or even half of the class - at least you showed up!  Just stretch a little on your own ;)

  • WORK AT YOUR OWN PACE.  Do not try to move like anyone else.  Do what's comfortable for you.  You can modify any exercise to your personal comfort level.  If you can't perform a certain move, march in place - it's a CARDIO workout so keep that heart rate going.

  • DO NOT STAND STILL.  Since Zumba® is a cardio workout, you want to keep moving the entire time.  For example, if there is a break, please lightly march in place.  [Don't worry - at the end of class, we will cool down and stretch.]

Here are some tips to help you FEXIBLE:
    • WARM UP BEFORE YOU STRETCH - To prevent sprains/pulls; warm up BEFORE exercising by a minute of jumping jacks or jogging in place.

    • STRETCH AFTER EXERCISING- Again, to prevent injury, such as muscle soreness, stiffness or cramping; take time to really stretch all of your muscles after any exercise.

    • STRETCH TO RELAX - You don't have to wait until your workout to stretch. Most of us stretch as soon as we wak up! Stretching reduces stress on your body so even if you work at a desk all day, streching can improve the way you feel.

    • INCREASE FLEXIBILITY- Stretching increases your overall flexibility by training your muscles to expand and give.
